Cleansing the mirror of my mind with the dust of my Guru's lotus feet, I sing the pure glory of Raghubara (Lord Rama), the bestower of the four fruits of life — Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha. I bow to the wise, compassionate, and mighty Hanuman. I know nothing of the science of medicine; my sole protector is Lord Rama alone. Knowing the entire world to be pervaded by Sita and Rama, I join both my hands and offer my salutations. O Khagesha (Garuda)! Hearing the tale of Lord Rama's virtues, the body thrills with supreme love and joy. Strength, intellect, and knowledge are all your divine power (Hanuman's maya). The creator of all is Lord Raghuraya (Rama). I salute Pavanakumara (Hanuman), who is like fire to the forest of the wicked, who is the embodiment of knowledge, and in the temple of whose heart Lord Rama resides with his bow and arrows. O Hanuman, giver of happiness to your devotees, capable in all things, whose sole vow is the worship of Lord Rama, treasure of compassion, the mightiest one, pure as gold! The whole world knows your glory as the true servant of Rama. Whoever desires auspicious welfare should worship Lord Rama. O Hanuman! The pain in my arms is immense (the Bahuk disease). By what means can I remove it? Only your grace can sustain me. Knowing me to be suffering, keep me in your refuge. By the grace of Lord Rama, arrogance, greed, delusion, ignorance, pride, and vanity are all destroyed. All diseases diminish and come under control. One becomes truly happy when one receives the grace of Lord Rama. O Son of the Wind! Your strength equals the wind itself. You are the treasure of intellect, discernment, and wisdom. What task in this world is so difficult that it cannot be accomplished with you by one's side? O messenger of Rama, abode of incomparable strength, son of Anjani, known as Pavanasuta (son of the wind)! O great hero, valiant one, with a body strong as a thunderbolt (Bajrangi)! Destroy evil thoughts and be the companion of good wisdom. By worshipping you, one attains Lord Rama and forgets the sorrows of countless lifetimes. At the time of death, one reaches the abode of Raghubara (Vaikuntha), and if born again, is known as a devotee of Hari.

Introduction
The Hanuman Bahuk is a deeply moving and powerful hymn to Lord Hanuman, composed by the great poet-saint Goswami Tulsidas (1532-1623 CE). Behind its composition lies a poignant story. Tulsidas was afflicted with severe, excruciating pain in his arms (bahu). No remedy or treatment provided any relief. In his anguish, he turned to his beloved deity Hanuman and composed this fervent prayer.
The word ‘Bahuk’ means ‘disease of the arms.’ In this composition, Tulsidas describes his suffering and makes a heartfelt plea to Hanuman for relief. It is said that Hanuman was so moved by Tulsidas’s devotion that he appeared and healed the poet’s affliction. The text is composed in Awadhi, Tulsidas’s mother tongue and the language in which he composed the Ramcharitmanas.
Significance
The Hanuman Bahuk is considered extremely effective for relief from physical pain, disease, and suffering. It is especially recited for ailments of the arms, limbs, and body. The composition embodies Tulsidas’s unwavering devotion, his absolute trust in Hanuman, and the glory of Lord Rama.
